GEEN 1400 Section 050/051 (Lego Robots)

GUIDELINES FOR FINAL REPORT

Due Monday, May 7 (11:55pm)

Prepare a type-written report that includes the following content:

- Strategy, requirements, and constraints

Present the strategy or strategies that your robot uses, and describe the requirements that these strategies placed on your robot's design. Also describe any other significant constraints that you had to overcome.

- Functional specification

Describe how your robot works. Include an overview along with detailed descriptions of each subsystem. This should cover hardware, software, and the interaction of the two. Pictures and diagrams are helpful.

- Implementation guide

Describe how you implemented your design. Provide enough information for another team in this class to build your robot. Pictures are very helpful.

- Code listing

Include a complete listing of the code that your robot used in the tournament. This includes calibration code (to determine thresholds for IR or photocell sensors), if the results from the calibration were used during the tournament. The code should be written in an understandable style and contain enough comments to explain its intended behavior.

- Operating procedure

This is the user's manual for your robot. Give enough information so that someone who has taken this class before (but has never seen your particular robot) could operate it in a tournament. Include procedures for calibration, strategy selection (if applicable), and tournament play.

 - Performance and lessons learned

Describe how well your robot performed in the tournament, and discuss the lessons you learned from its success or failure.

 - Team dynamics

Candidly discuss your experience working as a team. Discuss what you learned about working effectively in a group.

Turn in only one report for your team; each team member must contribute.

Your report should be written in a professional style, organized in a logical fashion, and be sure to proofread carefully. You are strongly encouraged to include figures, diagrams, graphs, and photographs when appropriate. You should be able to write a complete final report in 5-7 pages, double-spaced (not including the code listing).

You must submit your report to the instructor in PDF or DOC format via the Moodle by the deadline of 11:55pm on May 7.

Remember: This final report takes the place of a final exam for this course and is worth 20% of your final grade. Since this report represents a significant portion of your final grade, any group that wishes to submit their final report no less than one week in advance (April 30) will receive feedback from the Instructor before the deadline and have the opportunity to make changes (this is highly encouraged).
